Our neighborhood (Paris)

So we are all settled in our Parisian apartment. Here are some initial thoughts:

Close, really close, to many many sites on our must see list (3rd district)

The neighborhood appears to be in flux. Many cool bars and shops on the main drags and sex shops (peep show/video stuff) hanging on in between newer shops on the off shoots. Our walk toward the apartment inspired the random reflection: can you judge the quality if a neighborhood based on the quality of the sex shops? We live near the gold club in the city, like our ‘hood, and hope that others don’t judge our block by this tenant alone.

Close to the metro, but I learned today that Paris has 373 metro stops, so that might not be hard to do.

Really old looking. The flat is on the fourth floor off of a protected court yard. The ceiling beams are exposed and really sagging. Some of the beams are reinforced with metal plates.

This might be the ideal bachelor pad. 40 inch computer monitor, 70 inch projector tv, fridge stocked with beverages, candy galore, actual arcade machine, gigabytes on gibabytes of movies and music. It’s really over the top in a modern tech geek way.

Don’t be distracted by the sex shops, the street is pretty safe. :)

France landing

Danae and I had uneventful trip into Paris today. Our navigation of the trains, finding our apartment, and subsequent walking around also went well. The weather was amazing today, like swimming, but without water. The trees are all sprouting spring green leaves. We are very excited to run and tour parks tomorrow.

Paris Update:  Our trip may be canceled because of recent volcano activity in IceLand, and because I do not want my pilot to pull an Ace Ventura to land the plane:
In another incident in the 1980s, a British Airways 747 flew into a dust cloud and the grit sandblasted the windscreen. The pilot had to stand and look out a side window to land safely.Read more: http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?f=/n/a/2010/04/14/international/i010722D73.DTL#ixzz0lCPHIDGf

Happy Easter!  Today was a lazy day for the Cranley household.  Sophie discovered her Easter basket right away, and then quickly found the plastic eggs we hid for her.  She was super into it.  We then all got ready for Mass.  (Unfortunately, the camera got put away after our walk to church and then forgotten for the rest of the day.)

Two weekends ago, my mom and I ran a 12k from Sausalito over the Golden Gate Bridge and ending at Ghiradelli square.  The boys and Sophie met us at the finish line after riding an old-fashioned street car.   Another fabulous San Francisco day!

Sophie with her big grin when she saw me hold up the camera!
Whats new with Sophie these days?  Her favorite things include:

“Go Go” which translates into Sophie standing at the door with her baby stroller wanting to run around outside
“crackers”— doesn’t matter what kind (stoned wheat, graham, or saltine) the girl loves them all!
singing— if you sing a song with Sophie be careful, she will just ask for “more…more”
