Midnight Jazz
Danae and I have lived downtown for over 3 years.  Tonight, the first night with Sophie at home, was a night of many firsts.  And some of those were of the magical surprise variety. At 2 minutes til mid-night, Sophie and mom were settled in for feeding.  9 stories below, a saxophone player hooted a jazz standard from a distant alley way.   Heard but not seen, admired and un-tipped, his song...

Shrieky Poo
The sound of my scream carried through the apartment.  A wake of stillness followed the signal of my distressed man-sized alarm beacon.  Danae, forcefully waddled through her own physical discomfort, driven by a motherly instinct to heal.  She thought that she would surely find me, sprawled on the ground, bleeding with a gash on my head. My frozen silhouette, right hand extended from my waist,...

Sophie Adei Cranley
Sophie Adei Cranley was born Thursday night, 8:20 pm, via cesarean.   She weighed 7 pounds 5 ounces,  was 19.5 inches long, and is actually considered scientifically “perfect”.  Its not like the doctors actually told me the last part, but I am guessing its because they forgot to mention it. Frank Breech
Doctor: It looks like your Baby is Frank Breech.
Dad: Is there anything else that we can do at home to help this situation. What if I give it a talking to?
Doctor: I'm sorry, that won't help.
Dad: What if I give a stern talking too!?
Doctor:
We found out yesterday that Baby C, like its papa, would prefer to enter the world with its softest side first. Why would God give us "cranley asses" if she did not expect for us to use them -- right?
Tomorrow morning, Danae will be going to the hospital to see if they can turn the baby into the correct position. Good Luck! Our prominent backside is only matched in our prominent stubbornness. I think there is a likelihood we may need to do a C section for Baby C in the next 4 days.

Baby Birth Class
Okay, so today this baby thing got real very quickly.   The Daddy boot camp class I took 2 weeks ago was a good introduction, but today was the real deal.  The class lasted from 9am - 5 pm.   There were 3 birthing videos (the only ones I have seen in my life).  There was breathing exercises and demonstrations about “comfort” tools.  On the downside, no martinis were served. I...
