Sophie’s desire to explore under the bathroom sink has always been high. Over the past month, her ability to effectively explore that area has dramatically improved. Sophie can now open the cabinet doors (escaping our child proofing efforts), the drawers, and now most of the “product” containers. She knows the difference between pop off tops, flip open caps, pull tops, screw ons, etc.
This morning, she tried attempted to try on many of the “products” under the sink. While she was blocked from most attempts, she did succeed is sneaking a bottle of Safari body wash away to the bedroom, unscrewing the cap, and spreading the liquid on her hands and possibly face.
Sophie is now very clean and very much smells like a man.
Several weeks ago, Danae and Sophie went to visit GrandMa and GrandPa in Southern California. I took this opportunity to test out an adventure that had been in mind for several years: A Sykes Hot Springs Trail Run. Here is a recap of the adventure by the numbers:
Post Run Update: A week after the run (Memorial Day Weekend), my body broke out into a full body rash that the Doctors have labeled Pityriasis Rosea. The rash has spread from my wrists all the way to tops of my feet and consists of bright red swollen spots. I look like a pink dotted dalmatian. The rash persists to this day, is itchy, scaling and generally very annoying.
The doctors have no idea what causes this rash, how to treat it, but tell me it should last 6-8 weeks. I have a different theory: For my efforts pushing limits of my body Sykes Hot Springs Run, the trail and hot springs gave me the honor of wearing my own King of the Mountain jersey.

Sophie has had a shoe fetish almost always. Shoes on, shoes off, and again. Anyhow…about 6 weeks ago she got a couple pairs of new shoes. Now she is regularly expressing her preference for which to wear. Her metallic silver shoes always place first (so much so they’re now hidden because they are mostly still too big and she falls out when running in them), and there is a 2-way tie between her hot pink crocs and her white sandals. Never, never does she prefer to wear her very functional runners.

On Memorial Day weekend our family visited the Monterey Bay Aquarium with our friends— the Garcia Family. We had a great time! Sophie loved seeing all of the fish so close…she couldn’t help but squeal! (Like every other kid there.)

Danae and I have been really enjoying our time in France. The past few days we managed to make our way out of the city and into the countryside. We visited the champagne region (reims, epernay,and other towns), and yesterday we made our way into the Burgoyne region ( Chablis, vezelay). The food has actually gotten better for us and the availability of great tasting wine has made us very happy. Last night we had a 4 course meal and both agree that we are liking “the cheese course”. We drank a 13 yr old burgundy wine to help celebrate (Danae and met 13 yrs ago). The meal was really good.
This is technically our last day, and we are both excited to see Sophie again soon.
